2012 New Member Candidates

Name

Sponsor Statement

Tom Carter

Sponsor: Jake Courtney

Index:  19

Tom is a welcoming, social person. A member at Wilshire C.C. who would bring our members to his club while enhancing our events. His love of the 19th is evidenced by his open door policy at his home in Hermosa where members would be welcomed to drink from his collection of beers on tap while shooting some pool. He would also make E. Read and me feel taller.

Al Chao

Sponsors: Terry Nolan & Mark Frishman

Index:  11

Al has played in many of our tournaments as a sponsor's exemptions over the last couple of years.  With Al's flexible schedule and love for golf he would be a regular participant in almost all our tournaments.  He plays a lot of golf, is a very good player, and is a great guy to play with.

Most importantly,  Al is a wonderful person whose outgoing and fun personality will add immensely to the enjoyment of our members on and off the golf course.  Al will immediately become one of our most popular 19th hole members.

Rob Desantis

Sponsor:  Brent Frohoff

Index:  18

Rob has the flexibility and passion to participate in all BGC events.  Although he did not make it through the membership process last time, instead of turning bitter, he redoubled his efforts to get to know our members by participating in BGC events, when asked, as a sponsor exemption. He also stepped up when we needed a course for member-guest and was able to secure PV for the tournament, coming through big-time for the BGC. His kindness and generosity would provide ample means for fellow members to imbibe at the 19th hole.  Rob is a kind fellow who is easy to play with and fun to hang out with.

Kirk Johnson

(UCSB, circa 1979)

Sponsor:  Chris Warshaw

Index:  10

A South Bay local his entire life, Kirk defines a BGC member.  A solid and enthusiastic golfer, a lifetime surfer, a family man, a lover of cocktails, a UCSB grad, and honestly one of the best guys to play a round of golf with I've ever known.  While there is always a leap of faith in selecting a BGC member who did not grow up with us, as someone who cares more about the integrity of this club than perhaps anyone, I would never nominate Kirk unless I sincerely believed he would live up to (and indeed surpass) every high (and low) standard we set for members.  The guy is as solid as they come.

Tim Leonard

Sponsor:  Jim Leonard

Index:  15.4

Timbo has participated in many BGC events since returning to the South Bay.  He knows all members and continually provides a happy and generous disposition wherever he goes.  He's the first guy to buy you a beer, repair your divot or fix your electrical system.  He loves golf and a frosty one on the 19th.
