World Match Play Championships

Rules and Format

  1. All BGC Members must declare their intention to play in the Match Play Championships by paying the entry fee prior to October 15.  Entry fee is $20.

  2. Each member entered into the Match Play Championships will be seeded according to their finish in the previous Match Play Championships.  Players who have not participated in a Match Play Championship will be seeded after those that have and will be randomly placed on the bracket.

  3. The two players for each match are responsible for arranging a mutually-agreed upon date and course to conduct their match.

  4. For each round, the match must be played within two months as follows:

  • First Round:  November/December

  • Second Round: January/February

  • Third Round: March/April

  • Quarter Finals: May/June

  • Semi-Finals:  July/August

  • Finals:  September

  1. Matches must be played at a regulation 18 hole course and may not be played during another sanctioned BGC event.

  2. If the players cannot agree to a course, the tournament coordinator shall choose the course.

  3. Each match is an 18 hole net match play contest using the indexes from the month in which the match was played.  Index must be converted to a course handicap.

  4. The match shall be played off the lowest handicap (i.e., if a 5 handicap is playing a 10 handicap, the 10 handicap gets 5 strokes).

  5. The strokes shall be allocated to the highest handicap holes.  (i.e., in the example above the higher handicap gets one stroke for each of the 5 toughest holes)

  6. If the match remains a tie after 18 holes, the players shall first seek to proceed back to the first tee to play additional holes in a sudden death format.  If that is not possible, the players shall play holes on the putting green.  A coin flip will decide who first gets to pick a spot on the putting green and this honor shall alternate until one player wins a hole.

  7. Upon completion of the match, the winner is responsible for reporting the score to bgc@brogolfclub.com within 24 hours of the match.  The report should include the result (e.g., 5 & 4, 2 & 1, etc.), the course where the match was played, and a short summary.

  8. The prize money distribution is as follows:

  • Third Place (2 semifinal losers):  $75 each

  • Second Place:  $150

  • First Place:  $300
